Can Noise Cure Tinnitus?

The medical community has been spending a great deal of time and energy pursuing a solution for tinnitus. They have come up with many different ideas when looking for a cure, but sadly, the treatments they have put forth act as a mask for symptoms instead of a cure. The cure for tinnitus is not going to be found by changing the way people hear noises, and yet that is the main focus for those studying tinnitus. This is proven by the wide variety of approaches that are referred to as a solution for tinnitus.

One such treatment is the hearing aid. It is the belief by many medical professionals that a hearing aid can be used to drown tinnitus out. It is also their belief that if tinnitus is drowned out, it no longer exists. This does work to an extent. When people use a hearing aid, they are less distracted by the sounds of tinnitus. However, that does not mean the tinnitus goes away. It does not go away, but the symptoms are masked to a certain degree. People can hear the outside sounds better, which allows the sounds of tinnitus to be muffled to an extent. While is has its issues, it is a partial solution to the tinnitus problem.

A white noise machine is a frequently employed treatment for those with tinnitus. Once again, this is a reinforcement of the notion that blocking symptoms equals curing tinnitus. While this is not a cure for tinnitus, it can offer some relief, much like a hearing aid.

White noise sounds can be placed in the bedroom when someone is trying to sleep, and they can also be used in other areas of the house. In much the same fashion as a hearing aid, they diminish the psychological impact of the condition.

A newer type of masking device receiving doctor recommendations are actually worn inside the ear. Like white noise devices, the idea is the brain can be distracted by the different noise and thus, the tinnitus sufferer will no longer be symptomatic.

What tinnitus sufferers have found, though, is they do still suffer from symptoms, although the symptoms they suffer from are not as dramatic. The soothing noises that are produced by the masking device serve to minimize the symptoms tinnitus creates. The symptoms are intact, but they are made less obvious because the masking devices are able to conceal them to an extent.

While these mechanical solutions can help to moderate tinnitus, they are more concerned with the mental than the physical issues. While tinnitus is a physical problem, the idea behind noise machines and hearing aids is to make someone feel physiologically better.

By distracting people, the people are able to take their mind off the real problems to a certain extent. However, this doesn’t solve their medical issue. The distraction is not actually making the noise go away. It just reduces how noticeable it is.
Tinnitus is a real issue and its cure will not be found through solutions that seek to hide its existence. Instead of looking for ways to makes the issue, the medical community must instead look for ways to actually

The physical issues must be examined in regards to tinnitus. The medical community needs to look at the entire body and find the cure, instead of focusing on psychological methods of distraction.
